This place is unbelievable. I couldn't recommend it highly enough. We have stayed in plenty of nice accommodations around Ireland but this has to be the coolest and most unique one by quite a bit. The accommodation is modern, spotlessly clean and really well finished on the inside to make it warm and cozy. I would recommend it to anyone I know as when else will you get the chance to stay in such a unique accommodation in such a great spot to explore such as Connemara. Richard is a great host and only adds to the experience. Will be back again for sure.
The wild Atlantic way bus is nothing short of an adventurous idyllic retreat. It is an opportunity to immerse yourself in nature and experience the marvellous creation that Richard has made. The bus offers a unique experience that no hotel or ordinary B&&B can provide! Loved every minute of it!
Our second stay here and what can I say except that it was even more amazing than our previous time. We got to spend 3 nights with our 1 year old and it was just perfect as we managed to be able to give her , her own room to sleep in. Richard as usual was just so welcoming and such an amazing host. Our little Mia loves him. And I have to say it makes it even more special to have such an amazing host. The bus was as spotless as last times and still amazing to stay in with even with our baby girl being more much more mobile than our last stay. We definitely have found our new spot for a nice lovely, quiet getaway. We are already looking forward to our next stay.
The Wild Atlantic Bus/ the Big Green Bus is a fantastic place to stay for the novelty of sleeping on a double decker bus and its a great base from which to explore the local area. The love and craftsmanship that went into making the bus a comfortable stylish place to stay is evident from top to bottom. The beautifully fitted kitchen, bathroom , stove , beds and stylish decor makes for a great glamping experience. Outside the planting allows privacy and there is cool outdoor shower and firepit. Theres plenty of firewood to get the fire going. The thoughful touches of brownbread, jam, butter and eggs upon arrival were very much appreciated.. we got lovely weather so were able to visit Kylemore abbey, and the Connemara National Park and Glann Na Doon where the boys got to dip their toes in Lough Corrib. Its a fantastic experience to stay on the Wild Atlantic Bus/ Big Green Bus. Highly recommended
After an incredible stay on the Wild Atlantic Bus, we simply echo the sentiments of all Richard's previous guests. The pictures, while pretty great, do not do justice to the bus. Richard has skillfully and cleverly created a luxurious space while staying true to the original essence and integrity of the vehicle. Richard greeted us with some of Helen's scones and a warm fire and as a host, went above and beyond to ensure that our stay was comfortable. The bus, with its location and glorious afternoon sun, is definitely best experienced in person. Cannot recommend this listing enough
My boyfriend and I wanted to visit the glengowla mines for our anniversary and came across the wild Atlantic bus as an option for accommodation. When we arrived we realised that the mines were closed but that wasn’t an issue at all since the Wild Atlantic bus turned into the main attraction itself from the second we got there. Richard and his wife have created the most magical place, from the home baked fresh bread to the outdoor shower(with hot water), everything was perfect. It was snowing when we arrived but inside the bus was so cosy and warm with the fire, hot water bottles and the softest blankets ever. Richard was so helpful, giving us so many things to do (which we didn’t as the bus was so incredible we wanted to spend all our time at the bus). There was even two bath robes with The Wild Atlantic bus logo embroidered on them, so adorable! Inside the bus was everything we needed for the trip. The attention to detail is insane, but you need to see that for yourself. From having read the reviews my expectations were high, however after having experienced the wild Atlantic bus I can say with 100% certainty that my expectations were exceeded greatly. We had the most unforgettable, special anniversary, thank you so much! Hopefully we’ll see you again when the weather is warmer.
We spent two nights on board the Wild Atlantic Bus and we loved every minute of the trip. Richard is a lovely, warm and welcoming host and he has transformed and decorated the bus beautifully with unbelievable attention to detail. The bus has everything you could imagine and it’s sparkling clean. The outdoor shower room is a unique and freeing experience! Thank you for an enjoyable and special time and for going the extra mile for us, wheel be back again soon.
This is such a wonderful place to stay. I am in love. You see all the care and love richard has put into the bus and grounds, the second you arrive. What a wonderful, kind ,funny human being he is. Always there to welcome, help, reccommend. Love the bus, shower, fire pit.everything. town is just large enough to enjoy without being overrun. Close to many adventures. If u want beauty, adventure, uniqueness, fun, this is the place. I dont have anything but positive things to say. The outdoor shower, could live there. ha!!! You will love it!! Thanks richard!
First things first, this is an amazing place to stay, if you like the idea of staying in a converted bus then you'll love it even more in the flesh. It's a clean, comfortable, stylish and liveable space with incredible finishing touches and attention to detail. Every morning you wake up there you won't be able to stifle the giggle you get because you just woke up in the coolest bus in Ireland. The inside of the bus is kitted out with everything you could need, we slept upstairs and the beds were really comfy everyone slept like logs. There's a shower and toilet on the bus but the outdoor shower is really cool, it's semi enclosed but you have a view over the neighbouring fields. The kitchen is perfect with everything you need, we mainly used the barbecue outside though as the weather was nice. There's plenty of little private spaces to break away from the group if required. It was all the little finishing touches that we really loved though, the lighting, the design, the thought that was put into it is incredible. The bus is located just outside oughterard, near the lake, on the doorstep of beautiful connemara but close to pretty much all the amenities you need. Richard is a gent, he left us to ourselves for our stay but got chatting to him on our last day and he's a really nice guy. So to finish, I have absolutely no reservations in recommending the wild Atlantic bus, it ticked all our boxes, it is comfortable, in a good location, and cool as feck!
The Wild Atlantic Bus is amazing! Set just outside of a small village, this is the perfect spot for getting away from the hustle, and enjoying the beauty of Irish countryside. Richard has made this a home away from home - it was comfortable and clean and stylish and fun. I would highly recommend, and look forward to returning to visit again soon.
Our second visit to the Wild Atlantic Bus was fabulous, a cosy, warm and unique experience! My family & I love spending quality time together & the bus offers the perfect balance of comfort in a quiet, beautiful setting where everyone can relax & enjoy being in nature. Richard is a great host who made us feel so welcome, he goes out of his way to assist where he can, we will definitely plan another visit to the bus, we love everything it has to offer!
Had the most lovely stay on the Wild Atlantic Bus, it couldn’t have been more cosy,
clean or comfortable and Richard was the perfect host -
so thoughtful and helpful. I will definitely be returning!
Richard and the Wild Atlantic Bus delivered more than a top quality, clean and fantastically located AirBnB accommodation - they delivered a memorable experience that will last a lifetime for me and my wife. The stay started with the personalized care of leading us by the hand to the location due to a snafu with our GPS and then to be welcomed with fresh eggs, milk, scones and local jam that made for a perfect snack upon arrival. Richard took the time to show us all of the features that the Bus contained - that list is long and distinguished. He made sure we knew how to operate the fireplace so that we would be cozy. He informed us of the area and made us feel like guests of the community. Richard is a true ambassador for the area and Ireland as a whole. When we had an issue with our power converter Richard went out of his way to fix it for us. I could go on and on!! Staying on The Wild Atlantic Bus is an experience not to be missed - we will surely be back one day to continue our adventures! Thanks again Richard for who you are and what you have created for others!
Our stay on the Wild Atlantic Bus was an extraordinary visit from start to finish. Richard met us as soon as we arrived and gave us a very warm welcome. Fresh bread amongst other treats were left for us and our 3-year-old was gifted an activity book which kept her well occupied during rainy spells. The bus had all the essentials a family would require inside with the addition of an extra outdoor shower for the more adventurous! My favourite was the wood burning stove. The bus was within good distance to all outdoor pursuits we had wanted to do. A real treat for the active couple or family. Thanks Richard!
This place is outstanding! If you’re looking at the reviews, go ahead and book it! And wait till you meet Richard... great guy! Anyway, I thought I’d let my daughter write this review. This was truly an amazing experience; we couldn’t have asked for more! Absolutely beautiful interior, Richards vision is truly inspiring! Everything has been thought of to the finest of details. You can really feel the love and effort that has been put into the bus. This was such a unique experience and we are very grateful to Richard for sharing this with others. The location is ideal, waking up surrounded by nature was fantastic, before heading out to the outdoor shower (optional)! Minutes’ walk from the loch and other walking routes with fantastic scenery, or a 25min walk into the village (if you didn’t have a car like us), was lovely, everyone waves as they pass by. At no point was the bus cold. Richard was king enough to light the wood burning fire for us 2hrs prior to our arrival, what a warm welcome! This may not be the case in summer months, but we arrived at the end of October, so the weather was cooling down. There’s also central heating that’s set for the evening and morning times. This makes the bus great for throughout the year. We were sad to leave when the time came, however, Richard came and picked us up, drove us into Oughterard village, where we happily missed the next 3 busses into Galway while we had lunch and a Guinness with Richard for a few hours... outstanding!!! Get it booked... you’ll love it! Can’t wait to return, thanks for everything! Dalia & Gordon x
We couldn't recommend this more. The wild atlantic bus was absolutely fantastic and Richard was a perfect host. There are so many thoughtful touches for that extra splash of luxury and we were made so welcome. The beds are super comfortable and beautiful curtains kept the draught out, so although we were staying on a bus, we were always snug and warm. Be brave and try the outdoor shower, at first glance you think you'll be cold but it's very protected in the hut and the steam against the wood makes it smell like a sauna - all with views over the fields! Thanks again for a lovely stay.
From Richard’s warm & friendly welcome, to our “we’ll definitely see you soon!” ... our stay at the Wild Atlantic Bus was truly a unique experience. Kudos to Richard for such a well thought out and sensitive transformation of this bus. He has created an oasis while still managing to maintain plenty of authentic features ... a beautiful balance that he has passionately restored. Richard was a superb host, aware and responding to his guest’s needs whilst also respecting our privacy - the perfect balance! Richard’s attention to detail is not only present in the decor of this amazing space but also in the “little touches” throughout the bus to make your stay that extra bit special! I would highly recommend a stay at the Wild Atlantic Bus and we’ll definitely be back.

Words won't do The Atlantic Bus justice but here goes. We had a wonderful stay there. The bus has been converted at such a high level. We had everything we could want and more. Comfy beds, warm shower, kitchen, BBQ, amazing views. The extra little details on-board make the bus all the more special. Richard was a great host and we are already looking forward to returning for another stay.
Where to begin... Richard has created one of the most unique stays I have ever had. His bus is absolutely amazing, from the littlest details to the cozy beds to his kindness and hospitality. Touches of home like fresh baked bread, eggs and cream in the fridge, and fresh flowers in the kitchen made it feel like I had been there forever. The bus has such a tranquil setting and it was the perfect place to rely stop and enjoy Ireland. Richard had the best local recommendations and I'm so glad I went to Connemara like he suggested. It's breathtaking there and so far from the tourist attractions! I did also head to the cliffs and made sure to leave at 6am to get there by 8am. Definitely the best plan as I had the place almost to myself for a 2 hour hike before the busses rolled in! When you stay, definitely use the outdoor shower at sunset for a spectacular view! An outdoor fire is so so dreamy. Richard, you've outdone yourself and I'm just sad that I wasn't there longer! I'll be back one day and can't wait to enjoy more of what Ireland has to offer.
